Community consultation for Casement Park design project announced

Ulster GAA has announced the launch of the second stage of its community consultation programme for the proposed redevelopment of a provincial stadium at Casement Park. 

Stage two will involve further engagement with the local community and interested stakeholders commencing with a series of public events w/c 24th October to provide information on the emerging design, and the outcome of Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA). 

Expert members of the Casement Park Project team will be on hand to discuss the project with the local community and all interested parties. These events are part of a widespread engagement programme which will seek the views on the proposed new design with stakeholders across West Belfast and throughout Ulster. 

The Stage Two public events include: Monday 24th October at Conway Mill, Lagan Valley Island Centre (25th Oct) Glenn Community Complex (26th Oct) and Andersonstown Leisure Centre (27th Oct). The events will take place from 1pm to 8pm. 

Following the events, Ulster GAA will announce details of a drop in office which will be located within the vicinity of Casement Park to provide the opportunity for engagement on the project at alternative times. Feedback forms will also be available throughout the consultation period at unmanned stands located in Colin Glen Forest Park Centre, O’Neills Shop, Kennedy Centre, An Cultúrlann, Conway Mill and Andersonstown Leisure Centre. 

Speaking ahead of the Stage 2 consultation launch, Tom Daly, Chairman of the Casement Park Project Board commented: 

“As we prepare to launch our proposed new design, the Casement Park Project team would like to thank everyone who has taken the time to respond to the consultation to date and have their views heard.  Around 2,000 people have responded so far with 91% of respondents in favour of the project and we look forward to further engagement with the community and wider stakeholders during stage 2 as we seek their views on the proposed new scheme design. It is important that everyone has their voice heard on a project that people throughout West Belfast, County Antrim, Ulster and Ireland will be immensely proud of and a stadium that the next generation of young people can aspire to play in.”

“We are delighted to be able to unveil the new design for Casement Park in the coming days which incorporates feedback we received during stage 1.   At our planned events and throughout stage 2 of the consultation process we will engage with the public to hear their views and discuss the vision we have for a stadium that will inspire participation in sport, support economic prosperity and advance cultural and arts opportunities.”
